When you are relocating to a new city or state, one of the most important tasks to cross off your list is packing your valuable belongings. This may include your electronic appliances, such as the refrigerator, washer, vacuum cleaner, and the like. A residential move requires a lot of planning and packing your items properly will help prevent damage.
As a moving and storage company in Los Angeles, California, we will share tips on how to pack your appliances for an upcoming move:
- Clean and disassemble each item.
Clean and thoroughly dry each appliance before packing. Be sure to separate any loose or removable parts, such as the glass tray from inside the microwave. A moving company can help pack your belongings to ensure everything is secure. - Choose the appropriate box.
If possible, use the appliance’s original packing. Otherwise, opt for an appropriate-sized box. Tape the bottom flaps of the boxes with packing tape to make sure they are secure. This is necessary even with pre-assembled boxes as tape dries out and loses its grip over time. - Line the box with packing paper.
Lay packing paper or plain newsprint onto a clean work surface and lightly crumple them. Add these crumpled pieces to the bottom of the box to create a structure for some shock absorption. - Wrap the appliance.
Wrap each appliance completely with two to three sheets of paper and secure them tightly with packing tape. Whenever possible, do not tape the appliance directly as tape can be hard to remove.
